Reciting classic texts in elegant language, reading aloud accompanies growth. The 10th Hello Mandarin Recitation Competition Australia 2026 concluded successfully on the 14th at the University of Technology Sydney. With the core theme of “Ten Years of Recitation, One Generation’s Growth,” this grand event brought together the voices of young people across Australia. Ten years of dedicated cultivation and passing on the torch, using clear Chinese recitations of classics to connect friendships and transmit culture, has written a warm chapter in Sino-Australian cultural exchange.

The event was a vibrant and star-studded affair, with 150 outstanding contestants from across Australia gathering to compete. Notably, nearly a third of the participants were non-Chinese youth, demonstrating a cross-racial and cross-cultural passion that allowed the beauty of the Chinese language to flourish in Australia. Despite coming from diverse schools and linguistic/cultural backgrounds, the contestants shared a deep love for the Chinese language, expressing their emotions through sound and connecting with others through literature. They recited classical poems with deep feeling, carrying on a thousand-year-old cultural tradition; or sincerely performed modern prose, expressing the voices of youth. Their fluent and confident expressions, captivating performances, and heartfelt emotions perfectly showcased the beauty of the Chinese language’s sounds, rhythms, and cultural essence. Each recitation earned enthusiastic applause from the audience, creating a visual and auditory feast where language and culture intertwined.

After fierce competition and professional judging, the event ultimately selected several outstanding youth representatives. Five youths, including William Gan Saunders, were named “Hello Mandarin” Youth Cultural Ambassadors, and three students, including Guo Zhaotong, received the title of “Huaxing Junior Reporter.” At the awards ceremony, the organisers solemnly commended the winners in each group and presented wonderful performances of outstanding works, allowing the sounds of classic recitations to continue to resonate and letting the power of cultural inheritance reach people’s hearts.
