2026 UNSW CSA Lantern Festival Comedy Gala: A Night of Reunion Under the Southern Moon
On March 3, 2026, the UNSW Chinese Student Association (UNSWCSA) hosted the “2026 Lantern Festival Comedy Gala” at Mathew Theatre A, themed “Moon Over Overseas, Joy at Lantern Festival”. The event brought together hundreds of Chinese international students in Sydney for a memorable reunion filled with culture and laughter.
The gala featured a diverse lineup of performances, including crosstalk, dance, singing, sketch comedy, and stand-up comedy. Highlighting the evening were renowned Chinese inheritors of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH): Lu Jiale, a national first-class performer of Suzhou Pingtan, and Zhu Yanlong, the inheritor of Niugu Shulaibao (Ox Bone Clapper Ballad). Their exquisite shows allowed students to experience the warmth and elegance of traditional Chinese art up close.
The stand-up comedy segment was a huge hit, with comedians sharing hilarious stories about student life in Australia, resonating deeply with the audience. Interactive lucky draws with prizes such as exquisite tea sets and porcelain added to the festive atmosphere.
This event not only provided a joyful gathering for students far from home but also served as a vital link connecting overseas Chinese youth to their cultural roots. UNSWCSA will continue to organise activities that promote cultural exchange and support the well-being of Chinese students in Australia.
